Shoujing/ recalling the frightened soul (收驚)

In the traditional Chinese concept of the soul ( hun-po, 魂魄) , "hun (魂)" governs the spiritual powers of thought and reasoning , while " po(魄)" governs the power of movement of the body.

When a person has received a fright, the soul is believed to have left the body . It is recalled by conducting shoujing, after which the person will once more be at peace . Shoujing is conducted at a temple for the person himself , or the third party who has brought a piece of clothing or other personal item belonging to the sufferer .
